Color Coding of Passive Devices

Starting with resitors  carbon flim resistors  are color coded . but with in this article you will learn more than your books you earlier  read. Starting with basic  resistors, color code are divide into various band
1 and 2 and tell about multiplicant third band about multiplier  or the power to which 10 is to be raised and multilpied  and fourth band about the tolerance …. This the all basic knowledge we all know but the matter of fact is that  there can be more than four bands a five band resistor . the third band from left  band tells about one more multiplicant . while rest reamins the same…. But in a six band resistor
sixth band tells about the temperature coefficient as resistors values varies with temperature

There is a belief    that resistors are color coded while value of  capacitors are printed this is not the fact but  the fact is capacitor are also color coded and values of rersistors are printed following article tells about this

Color coding of capacitors

68 nf 20% 400v                                                  .47uf 10% 250 v

Capacitors are color coded as shown in the following diagram … hence both resistor  and capacitors can be color coded

A Good memory booster to remember color code :

Bad beer rots our young guts but vodka goes well – get some now ;-)

MODERN SURFACE MOUNT CODING OF RESISTORS AND CAPACITORS

Today due to highly adavanced suface mount technolgy and high advanced pcb simulations resistors are coded in the 3 digits , first two digit tells about  the multiplicant  and multiplier of raised power of 10
